![]() According to a release from the vybzkartelbook.com Adidja Palmer has decided to give the green light to his co-author and business partner, Michael Dawson, to reveal to the public things about himself that he had previously chosen to keep private as he has always wanted to keep his personal and family life away from the intense public scrutiny that he has endured. According to Laing, Supreme Promotions did not organise for Ryno to walk onstage during Popcaan's set and as a result he may never work with the artiste again.
Going into the busy party season, there are quite a few summer songs that selectors and disc jocks believe are doing well.
Among the top songs for ZJ Ice are I-Octane's We Love The Vibes and Popcaan's Summer Wave. He says there are also nice songs from Bugle and Blak Ryno, while Cashflow Records' Sun Tan rhythm is also doing well. ![]() Popular radio disc jockey ZJ Wah Wa has reportedly decided to split from Darkcide International, his management company. The 22-year-old is said to have worked with the company for four years. However, according to the release, Wah Wa has had it with manager Raymond 'Shadow' Small, and is now ready to handle the affairs of his career personally. The former Calabar High student is said to have left due to a breakdown in communication between himself and Small. It is also alleged that the two failed to reach an agreement for a new deal, which would see Small earning less than he previously earned. "I am no longer a part of Darkcide International. They will no longer take care of my affairs as it relates to bookings, public relations and management. I am treading new pastures," said the radio disc jock, who was christened Deon-Ville O'Hara. Despite this, whatever projects that the two were working on prior to the fallout will still be completed under the Darckcide International brand. The latest project, which is expected to be released soon, is the Mad Panorama rhythm, which features Konshens, Flippa Mogela, RDX, Navino, Ryno, Ninja Kid and Lincoln. "Anything we had produced will remain the same percentage wise," he said. When contacted Small acknowledged the split with the DJ. "He is not part of Darkcide International anymore. We wish him all the best," he said. In the meantime, according to the release Wah Wa, who is the promoter of Guinness Hamma Fridaze, will take care of his bookings along with Stacy Cowen, while his public relations will be handled by Roxroy McLean. ![]() Amid Vybz Kartel's legal battles, there comes even more news from the 'Gaza' camp as the 2007-formed Portmore Empire has been disbanded. Shortly after his much-publicised fallout with Alliance head honcho Bounty Killer, and his exit from the group, Vybz Kartel looked to his hometown of Portmore, St Catherine, to raise his own musical force, which would later be aptly titled the Portmore Empire. At the time of its origin, the group consisted of mainly young artistes like Blak Ryno (now Ryno), Craig Dennis (deceased), Omeil, Lisa Hype (now Lisa Hyper), Nuclear, Dosa Medicine, Shawn Storm, and Deva Bratt, who was touted to be Kartel's right hand and the one who was "leading out the Empire". A few fallouts and scandals later with artistes like Deva Bratt, Lisa Hyper, Gaza Kim (now Kym), Jah Vinchi, and Ryno, the size of the group has dwindled. In recent days, the Empire came to boast acts like Popcaan, Gaza Slim, Sheba, Gaza Indu, Shawn Storm, and Tommy Lee. However, in a recent release sent to The STAR, Adidjahiem Records announced news of the disbanding with a statement from incarcerated boss, Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer. It read: "Dancehall fans worldwide, it is with great regret that I, Adidja Palmer, have decided to disband the Portmore Empire. These artistes have been under the Adidjahiem leadership for years, where they have honed their craft and made their mark, and as such, are well on their way to becoming major forces in dancehall." It continued: "They have reached a level where they are more capable of taking on their careers by themselves, and it would be unfair to them, based on the limited resources of Adidjahiem Records, and the current legal woes of the Adidjahiem CEO, and team members. I wish them the best, and I am confident that they will live up to my expectations. In the future, Adidjahiem will continue to bring out new acts and groom them for stardom. Thank you." It also stated that members of the Portmore Empire, Vanessa 'Gaza Slim' Saddler and Leroy 'Tommy Lee' Russell are moving on with their careers under a newly formed label, PG 13. "PG 13 is the new name right now. a just deh so di ting deh, and that's all mi haffi say," When pressed as to how she felt since the group has now been dissolved, Gaza Slim said she had no comments and would only be focusing her attention on the new PG 13 label. In similar manner, Tommy Lee said PG 13 was where he would now be based. "A PG 13 me say straight. A dat me a say," Both artistes have been part of the Portmore Empire since 2010. The 'gaza prefect', Popcaan, who rose to the heights of fame under the guidance of Palmer, has been doing well for himself. Efforts to contact him, however, since Kartel's incarceration proved futile. The other standing member, Shawn Storm, was whisked away by the authorities as he is said to be implicated in the legal woes with Kartel. ![]() The atmosphere surrounding the camps of entertainers Ryno and Boom Boom have been tense ever since Boom Boom was attacked outside the popular Uptown Mondays event at Savannah Plaza on Constant Spring Road in 2010. The selector, who had to be hospitalised after the attack, said, at the time, that the assault was carried out by associates of Ryno after a CD that the Rich Mi Seh singjay requested be played, was not. Earlier this month, talks of a scuffle between the two at another staging of Uptown Mondays were making the rounds. However, they both dismissed such rumours. Now, the two have decided that they will put their differences aside and somewhat 'bury the hatchet'. The reason for this, they say, is for their friends and fans to maintain a peaceful mindset. According to Ryno, the 'peace treaty' was made official at a recent Boasy Tuesdays event, and he is focusing solely on music. "A peace we a deal wid and love and unity. Based on what people did a seh was that we're at odds, but is not like mi a look fi Boom Boom fi do him nothing or him a look fi me fi do me nothing. At the end of the day, Boom Boom a selector and me a artiste and a music wi deal wid," Boom Boom also shared similar comments with THE WEEKEND STAR saying. "Me and him (Ryno) nuh have nothing differently still. Is just that, when two a we in the streets and our people near each other, there is some amount of tension, so mi haffi mek di people know seh me and him nuh have nothing. Ryno seh him nuh know nothing about wah did happen to mi. Mi a play Ryno song dem an even a big him up pon di mic, and him a big mi up too." However, with one issue swept under the carpet, Ryno refused to comment about a reconciliation with Gaza-affiliated artistes Popcaan and Tommy Lee who have been the targets of recent songs done by him. "As mi seh, Boom Boom a selector, Ryno a artiste and dem man deh over deh suh a artiste same way," he said. |
